I think idea eddys fade and flow downstream from lack of attention. Unless there is time -- or until you take the time to explore ideas further, they're all doomed to drift away.
Ideas are perishible. They are replaced by others, and others after that. A pattern of neglect leaves us floating on the surface, never getting to the real depth of innovation.

Chas - very true. Ideas are perishable from two perspectives... either we lose interest and the idea eddie dissipates... or we linger on them long enough to see others execute it ("hold on - I thought of that 3 years ago!)"
